I believe it has been awhile since I updated what is going on. Today would have been my surgery date but it was cancelled because I was so sick. I forgot to read over what I wrote in the last post, which was somewhat of a blur for me during that time so I will start from the beginning. I had pre op testing on Friday Jan 26th. The next day I had chills, fever, vomiting. By Sunday I went to urgent care, they said I had upper respiratory infection, no flu. But I didn’t not have any respiratory symptoms. By Tuesday I had been in a fog of chilling, sleeping, fever, throwing up, sleeping and then start all over. I was dizzy, a little confused (I could tell because I couldn’t figure out if I was working my phone correctly). Tuesday, I got a phone call from the surgeon office saying I had UTI. I started antibiotics that evening. Then Wednesday morning I just didn’t think I could take it anymore. I went to the ER. The doctor looked at me like I was an idiot. He told me my lab work was perfect. I said, “Yeah I am sure on Friday it was perfect, today is Wednesday!” I was hoping for something in the IV that would work faster and better, or maybe hydration. But I was sent home. Friday I got in to see my doctor. I was still having a fever 102.8. He did lab work which showed a high white blood cell count and I was dehydrated. I had also developed a cough that had been going on for two days at that point. The doctor told me later he almost admitted me to the hospital that day but decided to add another antibiotic and see if that worked. Well, thank god it worked. I feel so much better but the doctor said. I had to wait a couple weeks to make sure I was completely over this before I have surgery. Wednesday, the day I went to ER, I had started the clear liquid diet. I was on it three days before I cancelled my surgery. I had no problems with it, mostly because I had no appetite.

I am now back on track for surgery on 2/19. I start my liquid diet again on Monday the 12th. Fingers crossed for no more sickness! During that time that I was so sick, I got behind on my school work. I am working on my masters in nursing. I ended up taking a medical leave of absence because I got so behind. I am really discouraged about school now. I am not sure I will go back.

Update from this morning.

Just wanted to offer quick update as to how my day went today. I started off this morning talking about how I was sick for the last few days. And I’ve still been sick for most of the day today. I was getting ready to make an appointment with my regular doctor so I can figure out what’s going on when the surgeon’s office called. They said that based on the preop lab work and urine test that I had done Friday which was 4 days earlier that I have a urinary tract infection. No wonder I have been so sick. That is about the most sick I’ve ever been. I have been miserable. Then I had to wait all day to get the antibiotic called to my Pharmacy so I can get started on it. Just imagine how different this weekend could have gone if I have gotten an antibiotic on Friday instead of Tuesday. So today is my last day of eating regular food. But honestly I haven’t eaten much of anything for the last few days already and I’ve already lost a few pounds just because I couldn’t eat anything because I was so sick. So everyone wants to know what I want to have for my last meal before I have to start this liquid diet. Nothing sounds good. I had envisioned pigging out on my most favorite food right before I went on the liquid diet and it has not happened. We ordered pizza which I could barely eat. I got an ice cream from Dairy Queen which I only had a couple bites. It just isn’t how I envisioned it but I know I’ll survive. One thing I can say though is that after the hell I’ve gone through for the last few days I don’t think I’m scared of the surgery so much anymore. It can’t possibly be as bad as what I’ve just been through.

I’m sick🤒

I was worried that I might be getting sick. I’ve had chills all day. I have a headache. My stomach starting to get upset. I have aches all over. My temperature is 102.6. I will probably go to urgent care tomorrow. If I have to go on antibiotics for anything I will have to postpone surgery. Unless they think I can get over this before surgery.

Learning New Foods to Cook

After surgery, when I get past all the liquid diet and soft foods, I will need to learn to cook some high protein, low fat, low carb foods.  I won’t eat more then half a cup of food at a time.  I have decided to start trying out some recipes ahead of time. I actually kind of made up this recipe but we really like it.  We used a little tool for turning zucchini into spaghetti noodles.  I sautéed the zucchini and onions and then put them down on the bottom of a pan.  I mixed shredded chicken and salsa and layered that over the zucchini.  Last, I put a small layer of cheese on the top and warmed it up in the oven.  We really liked it.  Will be trying that again in the future.  The dietician said that it will be awhile after surgery before we could eat it because there is a lot of fiber in the zucchini.
